Dr Hulya Hooker
BSc (Hons), MA, PhD, UKATA Diploma in TA Practice
Before training as a therapist, I spent nearly three decades as a psychologist in academia and research. That grounding in how people think, feel, and relate to one another informs everything I bring to the therapy room.
As a TA therapist, I place emotional literacy at the heart of my practice. When we develop awareness of our own emotional world, we become more attuned to others too. That shift can have a profound effect on our relationships and our overall sense of wellbeing.
I can help with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, bereavement and loss, relationship issues and trauma and PTSD, I also work with self-esteem difficulties, life transitions, personality disorders, caregiving challenges, cultural identity issues, bullying and discrimination, and divorce and family conflict.
Training and Experience
I hold a PhD in Cross-Cultural Psychology (University of Sussex) and a Diploma in Transactional Analysis Practice. I am a registered member of the UK Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA), the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA), and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work in accordance with their professional codes of ethics.
If you’re wondering whether therapy with me might be the right next step, I offer an initial conversation to help you decide.
